If you’re a blogger, have you saved your blog lately?
WordPress makes it easy. Here’s how to do it if you have a free blog:
- Go to your blog’s Dashboard.
- Click Tools, Export.
- Adjust the filters as you wish.
- Click the Download Export File button to save the XML file.
- Repeat as often as necessary (more often that you think).
Here’s more information from the Export page:
When you click the [Download Export File] button below, WordPress will create an XML file for you to save to your computer.
This format, which we call WordPress eXtended RSS or WXR, will contain your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags.
Once you’ve saved the download file, you can use the Import function on another WordPress blog to import this blog.
It never hurts to have a backup, and it’s fast and easy to create one. Don’t depend on WordPress to save your files for you (especially if you have a free blog).
If your blog is not on WordPress, find the command in your software, and get those backups going. Wouldn’t you hate to lose all that hard work? So would your readers…
What other files of yours are too precious to lose that you haven’t backed up lately? Ever?
